Malcolm X was an extremely important figure in the American civil rights movement. He advocated for the separation of black and white people, which served as direct contrast to Dr. King’s promotion of integration. During his time in prison, X joined the Nation of Islam, who followed the teachings of Elijah Muhammad. He later became disillusioned with the Nation of Islam and converted to Sunni Islam. Malcolm X was assassinated by members of the Nation due to suspected conflict.

Malcolm X sought his own knowledge and literacy. It was not given to him by society so he had to take it himself. He implores people to seek knowledge themselves and not be limited to the basic stuff forced to be taught in school. Knowledge is power in X’s eyes.

Malcolm X ideas and messages remain relevant to this day. Race relations in America are still tense and filled with conflict…
